Circulatory Massage

imageCirculatory Massage is a classic, beautiful style of bodywork.  It incorporates strokes such as effleurage, petrissage, wringing, kneading, and friction to soothe and relax the body and the mind.  It is similar to Swedish massage in many ways, but circulatory massage has a slower, smoother, more connected quality, and doesn't usually include the vigorous tapotement of Swedish massage.

If you are feeling anxious, stressed out, or overwhelmed, circulatory massage may be just what you need.  A single session of massage can reduce anxiety, lower your blood pressure, and slow your heart rate. Regular massage can help relieve anxiety and depression, as well as reduce levels of chronic pain.  And, of course, most people find that massage just feels good.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a more focused form of bodywork, designed to release specific muscle tension.  It incorporates strokes such as stretching, kneading, wringing, rolling, and friction, using fingers, thumbs, fists, and forearms as tools to work to the depth your tissue will allow.

Despite what you may have heard, deep tissue massage works best when the pressure feels firm but not uncomfortable. When the body tips from "hurts so good" to real pain, that causes the muscles to contract in order to protect the body. To ensure that your massage is relaxing your body, rather than making it more tense, we will maintain open communication throughout the session.

Nurturing Touch

image

Nurturing Touch is my own special blend of the techniques I learned while studying energy modalities such as acupressure, polarity, and sensory repatterning.  You don’t have to believe in human energy systems to enjoy the benefits of compassionate touch.

In my Nurturing Touch sessions, I create a calm, quiet environment in which to hold space for you.  Through my presence and gentle touch, I offer you support and unconditional acceptance of who you are, exactly as you are, without judgment.  It is a subtle, but powerful experience.

Nurturing Touch is quite different from traditional massage. Techniques may include energy holds, gentle stimulation of acupressure points, passive joint mobilizations, and light massaging of the hands, face, and scalp. Sessions are performed with the client fully clothed, and do not use any oil or lotion. The client may either lie face up, or be seated in a bed, chair, or mobility device in a comfortable position.

If you need bodywork but don’t want a massage, Nurturing Touch may be just what you’re looking for. Sessions can easily be adjusted to accommodate pain, emotional distress, frailty, history of trauma, or body dysphoria, as well as personal or cultural modesty.  I am sensitive to the different struggles we all face, and will gladly tailor my techniques to your individual needs.

Cancer/Oncology Massage

Oncology massage is a form of personalized massage designed to safely accommodate the unique and changing needs of the person in, or with a history of, cancer treatment.  I am trained to recognize and safely work within a framework of clinical considerations, including blood cell counts, blood clots, bone mets, medications, medical devices, compromised lymph nodes, and any other pressure, site, or positioning considerations.

There is no additional charge for oncology-specific Circulatory or Nurturing Touch sessions.  For safety reasons, Deep Tissue work is not available for clients in active cancer treatment.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy Massage is a style of bodywork designed to accommodate the dramatic physical changes that pregnancy causes.  Using various techniques and positions specially developed for the expecting parent, Pregnancy Massage helps release the pain and discomfort experienced throughout pregnancy. The benefits are profound, including emotional support, the relief of joint pain due to extra weight and postural imbalance, and improved breathing and relaxation.

This style of massage is also excellent for the "fourth trimester"—the first few months after delivery.  Labor and delivery cause tremendous strain on the body and emotions, and a new parent is often overwhelmed because they aren't getting enough sleep.  Pregnancy Massage can help address these issues and provide the extra support needed during this time.

There is no additional charge for Pregnancy Massage sessions.

Chair Massage

Chair massage is a popular way of relieving stress and releasing tension right in your home or workplace. You receive your massage in a specialized ergonomic chair which I bring to your location. Seated massage is done over the clothing, and sessions are usually shorter than traditional table massage, which makes it convenient enough to fit into your busy schedule.

Chair massage is a popular way to relieve stress in the workplace, and to add value to events, conventions, or trade shows.  It's also a fantastic addition to parties, showers, and other gatherings.
